What we mean when we say…

Across our website, projects and applications, there are certain words and phrases we return to regularly. This page shares a little more about what we mean by them and why they matter to our work.

Pelican Members: This refers to the individuals who are at the heart of TPP.  Pelican members are people with learning disabilities and those who identify as neurodivergent or outside of traditional labels.

Pelicans Members: Carers, Family, Facilitators and all those associated with TPP organisation are known collectively as ‘Pelicans’. This can be refined more specifically to their role within the organisation, (for example, Pelican member, Pelican Partner etc).

Communication Ally: At TPP, a Communication Ally supports and empowers individuals and groups. They work to create inclusive environments and ensure that everyone's voice is heard. They do this in a range of ways such as creating space and opportunity, advocating for Inclusion, providing support & guidance and facilitating communication.

At TPP, a Communication Ally may be a member of our team, a carer, family or Pelican Member.

Pelican Members are our most powerful Communication Allys through their role in supporting others' understanding of the group they represent.

Community Partnership Model (CPM): A model developed and led by TPP since 2017. Programmes are co-designed and co-delivered through partnerships with Community organisations and individuals. These partnerships are dynamic and mutually beneficial. They provide the Pelicans with high quality experiences, resources, venues and give partners the opportunity to shape their practice from the experience of working with us.

Drivers of Change: This refers to Individual Pelicans or Pelican groups who contribute to operational or strategic change within the Community, or the transformation of belief systems.

Core Program: This refers to our term-time workshop program delivered through our Community Partnership Model. The Core Programme is intentionally wide-ranging, spanning creative, cultural, physical and environmental activity.

Affiliated Membership: A pilot model exploring ways through which isolated and excluded individuals can connect with our program if they are unable to attend in person.
